Unmanic Monday: The Evolution of Healthcare, Starts with a Paradigm Shift in Self-Care

I am writing this with love as I wrap a blissful time at the Mystic Enchantment Retreat in Bali – refreshed and revamped. I am also frustrated yet hopeful as I think about my next travel endeavor (I’ll get to that in a moment).

Did you know that 60% of adults in the U.S. suffer from chronic conditions, yet most of them receive treatments that only address symptoms, not the underlying causes? This alarming statistic underscores a critical truth: our current healthcare system needs a profound shift.

I’ve been noticing an increasing discourse around the surge in quick-fix solutions like addressing our overweight nation with solutions like Ozempic, a perplexing rise in gastrointestinal issues that remain unexplained by routine blood tests, and a broader discontent with conventional health management practices. These conversations underscore a pressing need for a paradigm shift in healthcare—one that transcends merely addressing symptoms and instead adopts a holistic approach to treating the individual as a whole.

We’re standing on the brink of a healthcare revolution, moving towards an integrative, patient-centered model that recognizes the deep interconnectedness of our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Imagine a system where healthcare providers don’t just treat your symptoms but also explore how your lifestyle, mindset, and even your spiritual health contribute to your overall well-being. This is the future of healthcare we need to embrace.

This is a big part of why I will travel to Sedona next month to hold space for the Subtle Science Consortium, an event intending to bring together pioneers from various fields. We are talking modern medicine, energy healing, ancient wisdom, and beyond—for a new, comprehensive approach to healing. By blending these disciplines, we can all build a bridge to a healthcare system that truly supports our well-being on every level.

So, how can we start caring for ourselves in this new landscape?

I invite you to UnManic your Monday by taking action with one of the following seven actions you can take this week. Choose one, commit to it, and let me know what you decide to do

  1. Schedule a consultation with a holistic practitioner—whether it’s acupuncture, naturopathy, or an integrative physician. This will give you a broader perspective on your health and help you identify any underlying issues.

  2. Dedicate 10 minutes each morning to meditation or deep breathing exercises. This simple practice can help you become more attuned to your body’s signals and reduce stress.

  3. Read a book or listen to a podcast on integrative medicine. A good place to start is "How to Be Well" by Dr. Frank Lipman or the "Goop" podcast, which often features discussions on holistic health.

  4. Choose one area of your diet to improve this week—reducing sugar, adding more vegetables, or cutting out processed foods. Notice how these changes affect your energy and overall well-being.

  5. Try a new form of exercise that integrates mind and body, like yoga, tai chi, or Qi Gong. These practices promote physical health while also supporting mental and emotional balance.

  6. Attend a local wellness event, workshop, or even join an online community where you can share experiences and learn from others on a similar health journey.

  7. If you’ve been off regular check-ups, make an appointment this week. Whether it’s a dental cleaning with a bio dentist or a thermography session for breast health, staying on top of preventive care is crucial for long-term health.

By taking just one of these steps, you’re contributing to your well-being and the evolution of a more holistic healthcare model. Which one will you choose this week? Let me know what you commit to!

If you aren’t sure what to do, take some time to journal about your experiences with the healthcare system in general. Ask yourself …

  • What’s worked for you?

  • What hasn’t worked for you?

  • Is your body symptomatic, and what could it be asking for?

These reflection points help clarify what you need moving forward and how you want to approach your health.

And if you are someone who deeply resonates with this, consider joining me next month at the Subtle Science Consortium. The time to come together for change is now.
