Unmanic Monday: Does Political Hype Distract You from Your Spiritual Well-being?

Oh, election year!

📸 I snapped this recently and found myself reflecting on the timing.

Have you ever noticed how election years tend to distract us from what truly matters - our spiritual and personal wellness? The constant media coverage and political debates can be overwhelming, making it hard for people to focus on their personal growth and spiritual practices.

In an election year, people often face several common blocks related to their personal spirituality. Here are a few I notice:

  1. Increased Stress and Anxiety: The polarized nature of political discourse can elevate stress and anxiety, which may affect overall well-being, hindering our spiritual practices.

  2. Division and Conflict: Political divides can create conflicts in relationships and communities, leading to feelings of disconnection and affecting emotional and spiritual health.

  3. Neglect of Self-Care: The heightened focus on politics can lead to neglecting self-care routines and personal wellness practices.

  4. Fear: Concerns about the future and societal changes can create uncertainty, impacting our sense of security and spiritual grounding. I notice it is easy to go into bigger money fears and scarcity blocks.

  5. Loss of Inner Peace: Engaging with contentious political issues can disrupt our inner peace, making it difficult to maintain a centered and balanced state of mind.

Navigating these blocks involves setting boundaries with media consumption, maintaining healthy communication in relationships, maintaining an abundance mindset, and prioritizing self-care and spiritual practices amidst the noise of election year dynamics.

As we navigate through this period, I invite you to Unmanic Your Monday with me and do a quick assessment to make sure the focus is on what nourishes our souls. I invite you to V.O.T.E. with me, and this is not about anything political. This is about voting for yourself. Hear me out:

V.O.T.E.: A Helpful Reminder for Staying Grounded During Election Season

V - Value Your Inner Peace:

Prioritize activities that nurture your soul and bring you calm. Whether it's meditation, nature walks, or a favorite hobby, make time for what truly restores you. While you are doing so, create space just for you, and you may notice if political hype affected your spiritual practices or self-care routines, or just plain sparked some fear around things. Return to your values, and above all, restore peace.

O - Observe Without Attachment:

Stay informed, but avoid getting emotionally entangled in the political drama. Practice mindfulness and observe the unfolding events with a sense of detachment. If you choose to watch the news or you see something causing upset on social media, take moments to realign with what truly matters to you. Circle back time and again to what brings you peace and fulfillment, and leave the rest.

T - Trust Your Inner Wisdom:

In times of uncertainty, trust your intuition. Your inner guidance knows what’s best for your spiritual and emotional well-being. Lean into practices that connect you to your inner voice, such as journaling, meditation, or spending time in nature. Your intuition is a powerful tool that can guide you through the noise and help you make decisions that are in alignment with your highest self.

E - Engage Mindfully:

f you so choose, participate in the political process in ways that align with your values, but remember to balance this with self-care and spiritual practices. Engage in meaningful conversations without losing your center. It’s important to engage mindfully and commit to balance. Set an intention to prioritize your spiritual well-being, even amidst external distractions.

Stay grounded and let this be a season of opportunity to deepen your commitment to your own well-being. Remember, your well-being is a priority, not a luxury.
