As I am just wrapping up another Spirit-Led Retreat in Sedona, I am reflecting on the journey of delving into the depths of the self. We uncovered hidden facets of ourselves, had the opportunity to look at the shadows that often go unnoticed, and had the choice to greet them or not.
Embarking on a journey of self-discovery often involves traversing the unexplored territories of our psyche. One such profound exploration is commonly referred to as "shadow work."
As it goes when we choose to confront the shadow, both growth and challenging aspects show up. Some may be long avoided.
From the moment I stepped into our serene but powerful retreat space, there was a palpable sense of anticipation.
Along with deep transformation work, I design my retreats to guide participants through the process of shadow work.
This is a concept rooted in Jungian psychology that involves exploring the unconscious aspects of the self. Through this, we experience growth, self-awareness, and a deeper connection with our true selves, our signature frequency.
As the retreat unfolded, I found myself immersed in a journey of self-discovery that surpassed my expectations. Layers upon layers of personality and events that had long been hidden in the shadows – surfaced.
There was a sense of liberation in acknowledging and embracing these aspects, some of which were previously deemed unworthy or unacceptable. It was pure love energy.
However, light was also shed on some of the more challenging aspects of shadow work – confronting the energies within that we may prefer to keep hidden.
It is normal to grapple with emotions, memories, or aspects of our identity that are difficult to confront. We definitely experienced some of this together, and the energy generated created moments of discomfort and even some resistance.
Totally normal!
Shadow work isn't a linear journey but a dynamic process that involves facing both the light and dark aspects of ourselves.
The friction created by the confrontation with our shadows serves as a catalyst for growth, pushing us beyond our comfort zones and into a space of profound transformation.
Processing all of this, I carry with me a newfound appreciation for the complexity of the human psyche. The journey into the shadows is not for the faint of heart, but the rewards of self-discovery and growth far outweigh the challenges.
Embracing the shadows allows us to integrate all aspects of ourselves, fostering a more holistic and authentic way of living.
While the retreat may have come to a close, the journey of shadow work continues.
And for myself as well! I am armed with a deeper understanding of myself and the tools acquired during this transformative experience, and ready to navigate the ongoing exploration of my inner landscape.
Embracing the shadows as an integral part of my journey toward wholeness.
If you want to join me, I am all in with you.
Try this Mirror Meditation for Shadow Work:
Find a calm, quiet space where you can be alone, preferably in front of a mirror. Sit in front of a mirror, ensuring clear visibility of your own eyes.
Breath. Take a few deep breaths to relax and center yourself, as you look into your own eyes in the mirror. Maintain eye contact.
Pose open-ended questions about your emotions and hidden aspects:
What am I afraid to acknowledge?
Which emotions do I suppress?
Are there aspects of myself I judge?
4. Observe and notice emotional and physical reactions without judgment. If comfortable, verbalize your thoughts and feelings.
5. Move to a different space and journal insights and reflections.
Approach this with self-compassion and seek support if needed. I am definitely here to talk you through and support you. AND if you are ready to take this deep for lasting healing, consider a circle or a retreat.
